Should Mental Health Labels Be Temporary or Permanent?

Mentally ill or mental health labels are both good and bad. They allow for change as conditions fluctuate over time and lessen the stigma, shame, and self-judgment associated with labels. Labels are beneficial by providing clear treatment and support guidelines. Therefore, creating a balance between accurate labelling while respecting and acknowledging the unique experience of each individual is essential. Mental illness labelling should provide direction for care, not define a person's identity or limit their potential.
