Trying to maintain a career amid living with schizoaffective disorder may give a feel like working with two full-time jobs. One is a paid job while the other is managing your symptoms. Motivation and clarity help to work smoothly in some days. However, it is different on difficult days. Staying focused or interacting with people becomes tough and exhausting.

Let us share and know here how others navigate professional commitments. Do you disclose your condition to employers? Do you request accommodations? Do you opt for having flexible work hours, remote working or structured routines? Have such arrangements helped you?

Please share some practical strategies or workplace adjustments here which have really helped you.

Balancing work amid schizoaffective disorder is of course challenging. I feel on some days highly focused and motivated. However, even basic tasks or conversations feel exhausting on difficult days. Pacing myself and recognising early signs before things worsen really helped me.

I have not always disclosed my condition. Flexible hours and remote work made a big difference for me. Breaking tasks into smaller steps also worked. Taking short breaks was highly helpful.

Managing both health and career really feels tough. Right strategies are required. Share your experience as it may really help others who are struggling.

My preferred way of working is with a calm routine. I only inform my employer of my flexible schedule when I feel a sense of trust towards them. When I'm having tough days I request to have my tasks outlined in full detail. I also take short breaks in between tasks as needed.
