Does Creativity Increase During Mania or Hypomania

Many with bipolar disorder says that they feel more creative during mania or hypomania. Some even describe the situation as having a rush of ideas, faster thinking and a kind of energy to write, draw, make music or start big projects. It seems like everything flows more smoothly. The mind seems connecting things in new ways. However, that burst of creativity simultaneously can sometimes come with restlessness, impulsiveness or trouble finishing.

Others say that the kind of creativity may not always lead to something useful. Ideas may come too fast. The energy might be hard to control. Some even reveals that their best creative work actually happens during calmer or more stable periods. Their mind is clearer then and they can focus longer thereafter.

Everyone finds the creativity in a different way. What many agree is that relationship between bipolar disorder and creativity is complicated. It is not the same for everyone.

Have you noticed any difference in creativity during such mania, hypomania, stability or other such periods? Do share here and let others understand the situation better.

When I am in a hypomanic state I am bombarded with ideas and find myself constantly bouncing from one task to another. I end up creating a lot, but almost never completing anything in this state. When I am steady, I am able to put my full attention into shaping my thoughts and have an opportunity to produce my highest quality works.
