Have You Ever Felt Misunderstood by Your Doctors

This may be one serious question and many may not have noticed it that being misunderstood by doctors while trying to explain your symptoms. Doctors are of course trained professionals but still many claims that it can still be hard to feel truly heard. Sometimes it is felt that the core focus is more on medication and less on the way symptoms affect daily life. It then seems that they are just looking at numbers, reports or diagnosis labels. They seem least bothered about the person behind these documents.

Some say that their concerns were dismissed by the doctor or that they simply said that it is just your illness. Others feel rushed during appointments. Some even find hard to put their thoughts into words when they are under stress. This even leads to misunderstandings.

However, all doctors are not the same. Some professionals are very understanding. Finding the right doctor can take time as it is not easy. It is suggested to prepare questions in advance and write down your thoughts. Also, if possible, bring someone whom you trust to appointments. It will be a good support.

Share your experiences. Have you ever felt that your doctor didn’t understand what you were trying to convey. Your experiences may help others in dealing with similar situations.

I have often experienced a lack of understanding due to not being able to express myself clearly ('under stress'). That made things more difficult for me, especially because many doctors rushed through everything. I started to write out my notes before my appointments, and I also started taking someone with me for support. It has helped tremendously.
