How to Deal with Fear of Relapse

Many people with schizophrenia live with fear of relapse and the situation is sometimes even during stability periods. It gives a feel of constant worry like wondering if symptoms return, if daily life may become difficult again or if one will lose control. The fear is stressful and exhausting too. It sometimes affects sleep, mood as well as confidence.

Some manage the phase by focusing on what they can control like taking medication consistently, keeping therapy appointments, following routines and monitoring signs of early warning. Others rely on support systems like trusted friends, family or peer groups.

Mindfulness, journaling or relaxation techniques may sometimes turn helpful for some. They can easily notice anxiety about relapse without letting it take over. Others find it useful to remind themselves that relapse does not erase progress. They can recover again with the right strategies and right support.

Share here how do you cope with fear of relapse and whether you focus on routines, support networks or coping strategies. Your stories may turn helpful to others.

To alleviate again the fear of relapse, I make sure I have an easy routine and check in with myself daily. By talking to someone I can trust when I feel uncertain about my thoughts, they keep me grounded during those times.
