Movies or shows that misrepresent schizophrenia

Movies and television shows often shape the way people sees mental illness. However, not all portrayals are perfect or accurate. Many such shows exaggerate symptoms for drama. They confuse schizoaffective disorder with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. The shows or movies can certainly be entertaining, but it simultaneously also spreads misconceptions about reality.

Some find the portrayals frustrating. Some even find triggering as they focus only on the extreme cases. Analyzing what is inaccurate can be educational. It gives viewers a chance to reflect on what real-life experiences look like.

Discussing misrepresentations may help in advocating better portrayals. Sharing examples from films or shows may help others to recognize stereotypes and simultaneously to encourage more nuanced conversations about mental health.

Share here if you have watched such misleading movies or shows? How did it make you feel? What you may like to be changed in these movies or shows?

I often see shows overselling symptoms and this really frustrates and sometimes bothers me. They seem to emphasize extremes, while neglecting the everyday life aspect. I wish that they would include the calm stuff and different ways people deal with things, in addition to the real challenges that many people face day by day.
