There is a plethora of misunderstandings related to bipolar disorder. Many just think about the highs or the lows. They fail to realize how much effort it takes to stay stable in between the highs and the lows. They even fail to observe constant monitoring of mood, impact of sleep or high energy required to manage everyday responsibilities.

People really don’t know bipolar can affect thinking, energy, motivation and relationships as well. Some days feel normal and other days feel unpredictable. There are no reasons to explain. Medications, lifestyle changes and routines of course play an important role, but these just don’t fix everything magically. In fact, it is a long-term condition and requires proper understanding as well as good patience.

People also misunderstand is that bipolar does not look same for everyone. Some experience severe episodes while others witness milder symptoms. However, both struggles. It is not something that someone can snap out of. It is also not caused by being lazy, dramatic or emotional. It is a real medical condition equipped with several real challenges.

Do you want that more people should understood about bipolar disorder? Write something that you often have to explain?

Many people misunderstand bipolar disorder by assuming it consists solely of mood swings. In reality, there is an intermediate state in between the two extremes which I experience regularly. Therefore, maintaining a level of stability involves significant effort on my part. I must monitor my sleep, level of stress and energy because even small events may have a major impact on my mood or behaviour.
