Do you prefer being called a schizophrenic or person living with schizophrenia?

People have different preferences, but here’s the general guidance:
  • “Person living with schizophrenia” is person-first language. Many people prefer it because it emphasizes that they are a person before their condition.
  • “Schizophrenic” is identity-first language. Some people are comfortable with it, while others feel it reduces them to their diagnosis.
There’s no universally “correct” choice — the most respectful thing is to ask the individual what they prefer.
