Peer Support experiences either online or offline

Peer support is highly valuable for people with schizoaffective disorder. There are several online forums, chat groups and social media communities to provide support. The support is really helpful during isolation or when symptom spikes.

Offline support is like local support groups or in-person meetings. They offer face-to-face connection and often creates deeper bonds as well as appropriate accountability.

However, it is to note that both online and offline support have their own set of pros and cons. Many find combination of the two works best for them.

It is better to have peers who understand what you are going through. This can normalize experiences, provide coping strategies and simultaneously reduce feelings of stigma.

Share your views. Do you prefer online, offline or mix of both? Your experiences can help others in finding best community.

Honestly, I feel peer support is often overestimated. Online groups can become confusing or even triggering because anyone can give advice without real knowledge. Offline groups sometimes create pressure to share more than you are comfortable with, and not everyone wants their struggles discussed in front of strangers.
