Maintaining relationships while living with schizoaffective disorder is not easy. It turns up incredibly challenging. Many struggles with trust, communication and fear of judgment. Some choose to open up about their condition to friends and partners. Others prefer keeping the condition very private. Let us know what has been your experience.

Do also share whether you have lost relationships due to symptoms or misunderstandings. Many people withdraw for a long time due to paranoia and emotional instability. Reconnecting becomes hard and particularly when people don’t understand why space is required sometimes.

Let us know how do you explain your disorder. And whether you share everything or just some parts that they need to know?

How do you handle high-stress days when you are in a romantic relationship? Do you follow any boundaries or communication strategies to prevent conflicts caused by symptoms?

Let us talk openly about the topic as a lot of people want connection. Sharing real-life tips may help others.

When my symptoms are really bad, I retreat from my relationships. I now communicate only what I need to support me to make it clearer for everyone else. I also find that checking in on harder days with just a short sentence keeps things from blowing up.
